Book Description:

Raising Kids with a Healthy Body Image: A Guide for Catholic Parents is the unique approach to the body image crisis that impacts many children. From a young age, our kids are under immense pressure from a variety of sources that can determine the value of their bodies. But God has something to say about this as well. Saint John Paul II’s wonderful teaching known as Theology of the Body is the book’s guiding force. Along with Scripture and the Church’s Sacraments, this book is an excellent parenting tool to guide your child so they see the worth of their bodies as designed by our Creator. In addition, this book discusses the numerous causes of a poor body image and includes chapters on how to instill fitness and sound nutrition into your family life.

Testimonials

I absolutely loved this book by TJ Burdick. The book offered prayerful and thoughtful reflections and guidance on how to teach in the style of Christ. In the book, TJ takes a specific piece of Sacred Scripture and exposes the fine tuning Jesus puts into his teaching style. TJ includes analysis on topics interested in delivery, subject matter, method, philosophy, and the attributes of a good teacher in this book, making it a very comprehensive and inspiring read. This book is aimed at educators, so I highly recommend this book for homeschool parents, teachers in private and public schools, and any other educator who want to incorporate the virtue of Christ in their work. – Shaun McAfee, author of Filling our Father’s House (Sophia Press, 2015)

I’ve long wanted a great book to give to the Catholic teachers in my friends and family. That wait is over. TJ Burdick’s new book, 99 Ways to Teach Like the Master, is that perfect book. TJ breaks the book down into ninety-nine short, accessible chapters that help Catholic teachers realize how their faith can impact their teaching. Simultaneously he gives teaching insights and ideas that any teacher, whether Catholic or not, would benefit from. From how to help students learn from failure to how to be a storyteller as a teacher to how to deal with different types of intelligence, TJ writes over a broad swatch of important topics in the teaching world. The Master that TJ refers to in the book’s title is Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus is the Master, and the master Teacher. TJ incorporates Scripture and the example of Christ and applies them to every area of teaching. Each lesson shows how one can follow the pattern that Jesus left for us while teaching students. The book encompasses every aspect of a student’s life–not just the intellectual aspects–but who they are as a person and how teachers can help them develop themselves in truth. From years of teaching at various levels and reflecting on the Catholic Faith, TJ has synthesized the two in a powerful way. I was struck again and again with how keen his insights were. They clearly sprung from years of practical experience and personal reflection. I now have a go-to book for giving to the Catholic teachers in my life. 99 Ways to Teach Like the Master will help people both grow in their Catholic Faith and in their avocation as teachers. – Devin Rose, author of The Protestant’s Dilemma
