Doesn’t faith contradict thinking? Actually, no. The Catholic Church teaches that there is a strong relationship between faith and reason. In fact, it’s a characteristic of us rational creatures to practice a faith that seeks understanding. This book is specifically written for Catholics—fallen-away Catholics, lukewarm Catholics, struggling Catholics, would-be Catholics—for all those in search of the truth, as it gives life-saving answers to life-size questions.
Paperback: $18.99 | Kindle: $9.99
“After a lifetime in the academy, I am convinced that the highest priority in the New Evangelization is intellectual evangelization, and specifically, apologetics—answering the major questions which so deeply concern our young people: Does God exist? Are we mere matter? Is there a conflict between the bible and science? Does evolution have to be rejected? What is happiness? Are we really free? How can suffering be reconciled with a loving God? This book does all of this in an incredibly accessible, engaging, and intelligent way—which paves the way into the mind and heart of the living God.” – Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., President of the Magis Center of Reason and Faith, Former President Gonzaga University
“We live in a time and place in which vague religiosity unattached to belief in anything in particular has apparently become an attractive option for a large and growing number of people, including some who call themselves Catholics. Gerard Verschuuren’s book is a bracing antidote, well-reasoned and clearly written, to this peculiar affliction and a timely reminder to us all that the pillars of authentic faith are grounded in truth.” – Russel Shaw, Professor at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Rome, Former Secretary of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops/US Catholic Conference
“I liked the clear style of writing I this book. Even though I am neither a philosopher or theologian I could understand the sometimes esoteric terms of those disciplines as the author explained them. I will definitely show this prominently on my bookshelf. This could be very useful for parish discussion groups. In fact, I am recommending it for our parishioners.” – Sr. Marianne Postiglione, RSM, Associate Director of the Institute for Theological Encounter with Science and Technology
“This lively and accessible work should awaken or reawaken many Catholics to the glories of their Church as a beacon of faith and reason. It’s a real contribution to the New Evangelization.” – Mary Ann Glendon, Emeritus Professor of Law, Harvard University, Former US Ambassador to the Holy See
“Dr. Verschuuren’s book Faith That Makes You Think is an exceptional look at modern Christianity. The chapters in this great book move from the darkness of atheism into the light of faith.” – Roger Skrenes, author of Signs of Resurrection and The Human Equation
“In Faith that Makes You Think, Dr. Verschuuren demythifies the cultural assumption of the incompatibility of faith and science. Each chapter addresses misunderstandings and corrects mistakes clearly and convincingly for both the theologian and the lay person. While I am no philosopher or biblical expert, Dr. Verschuuren writes in a clear style comprehensible to the lay reader that enlightens the esoteric terms of those disciplines. As an elementary educator, I particularly enjoyed Chapter 6, “Made In God’s Image,” but every chapter is engaging and enlightening! Faith That Makes You Think will take a prominent place on my bookshelf–literally and metaphorically–and I look forward to using it in Sunday school and book club discussion groups.” – Jennifer Erickson, Elementary Educator, Alice Gustafson School, Batavia, IL

In this work, Fr. Paul Ezinando demonstrates that though we have knowledge of Jesus Christ from various perspectives, we cannot know Him enough. To help us come to a better knowledge of Jesus Christ, Fr Ezinando examines Him (Jesus) as a man of prayer in the light of St. Luke’s gospel, looking briefly at the concept of prayer from a historical perspective, analyzing certain moments of prayer in the life of Jesus – His baptism, withdrawal, choice of the apostles, transfiguration, institution of the lord’s prayer and passion – and reflecting on the significance these times of prayer for us.
This book contains a French translation of the text.

There is one story only. It’s woven out of personal experiences and memories, the worlds that we have actually known and loved. The poems in Such Common Stories connect to our individual stories, so that the experiences they present become our own and we become the storytellers of our own multifaceted lives.

“Larry Hopperton’s poetry turns upon the correspondences and tensions between the spiritual and natural realms and how human joy, grief and hope partake of both worlds. In Such Common Stories he further dissects that dialectic, drawing the reader forward with such a persuasive forward momentum that if you don’t take time to consider his images and metaphors in detail you may miss how apt and illuminating they are. Take the time to let these poems work their magic.” – Andrew Brooks, author of One Country After

This book seeks to provide a complete moral philosophy based on the works of St. Thomas Aquinas. The first part deals with the principles or ‘theory’ according to the final cause, efficient cause, material cause and formal cause. Setting aside grace, it concerns the ultimate end, or happiness as intended; the will and the human act as the principal efficient or moving cause and subject; the sense appetites as the secondary moving and material causes, the intrinsic formal causes which are the habits in the will and sense appetites; and law as the extrinsic formal principle of all human behaviour. The second part deals with the four cardinal virtues and all virtues under them, setting aside the theological virtues, and adding as a fifth section a more detailed treatment of happiness as effected.

“As its title indicates, Dr Donald Boland’s book is indeed a complete course on moral philosophy for our time and for all time. The moral philosophy of St Thomas Aquinas and Aristotle is exposed and explained in wonderful order and with great clarity. The seminarians for whom this text was originally written as a series of lectures were indeed blessed to have had Dr Boland as their teacher. I recommend it not only to Catholic teachers and students, but to all persons of good will who are desirous of a sane education in right morals and virtue. I believe this book is destined to do a lot of good.” – Frank Calneggia, author of Assertions and Refutations: An Assessment of Dr Tracey Rowland’s Natural Law: From Neo Thomism to Nuptial Mysticism
