Shards of Crystal

by Thérèse Judeana

An impenetrable shadow has bound the galaxy of Andromeda for centuries. After a freak accident of space, an empire of slave traders learns to control time. Now nothing can stop them from taking whom they will. In the deadly currents of a universe torn by the Marauders, can Marc, one of the galaxies’ guardians, protect those he loves? Will his daughter survive her traumatic past? Can anyone bring light to the Marauders and break Andromeda’s chains?

In this third book of the trilogy, entitled Shards of Crystal, the Cult has forced its hand; the Great Raid is beginning.

– Thomas J. Nash, The Catholic World Report

When given the chance to submit cover designs, four out of five of Richard Clements’ children submitted drawings. The one selected is from among those four submissions. The other three submissions are featured here above.

The Book of Love: Brief Meditations

The Book of Love: Brief Meditations contains eighty-five brief, accessible, easily readable reflections on various aspects of love, including the following:

  • the essence of divine love as the selfless gift of self, given and received, as revealed by Jesus Christ
  • the various types of love, including God’s love for us and our love for God, self-love, marital love, parental love, friendship, love of one’s neighbor, and love of one’s “enemies”
  • the four key elements of genuine love
  • suggestions for living out those four key elements in one’s daily life
  • discerning and fulfilling one’s unique mission of love in the world

We human beings are all homo viator: people on a journey. We are all on a journey ad Amorem, a journey toward Love. Drawing upon some profound insights regarding love from a variety of thinkers, including Hans Urs von Balthasar, Josef Pieper, Thomas Aquinas, Pope John Paul II, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, and C. S. Lewis, Clements skillfully guides readers of The Book of Love a little farther along the path toward Love.

From Where Shall Come Our Help? The Lament of Abused Persons by Henry Ogbuji

From Where Shall Come Our Help? The Lament of Abused Persons

by Henry Onwusoro Ogbuji

This work of practical theology offers an alternative framework for addressing the global phenomenon of domestic violence, putting on the table a transformative, compassion-praxis, pastorally ministerial approach. While his context is broadly West Africa and particularly Nigeria, Fr. Ogbuji challenges all ecclesial and civil leadership worldwide that serve the hugely patriarchal cultures and the colonialist legacies that perpetuate the evil.

Paperback: $19.95 | Kindle: $9.99

TESTIMONIALS

“Fr. Dr. Henry O. Ogbuji’s book, From Where Shall Come Our Help? The Lament of Abused Persons, sheds light on the nature of domestic violence and its impacts in Nigeria. He uses the Psalmist’s lament (Ps 121:1) as a guide to help readers understand the plight, frequency, forms, and responses to domestic violence against women. Unfortunately, Nigerian laws do not criminalize the perpetrators of domestic violence due to a male-centered perspective. Fr. Henry stresses that recognizing domestic violence as a problem is the first step to finding potential solutions. This book is an invitation to theological and scholarly discourse on this evil that affects the most vulnerable population in Nigeria and beyond. It is an essential book for everyone.” —Sr. Adaku H Ogbuji, CCVI, PhD, author of Dealing Effectively with Domestic Abuse: The Ministry of Reconciliation and Healing

“Henry Ogbuji offers an insightful analysis of the crisis of domestic violence in Nigeria. Drawing from a wealth of theological sources, the author puts forward an ecclesial framework to address the effects of violence towards the most vulnerable, especially women. This study is a valuable resource to pastors, preachers, priests, community organisers, and educators supporting healthy and robust communities of faith.”Luis Menendez-Antuna, Assistant Professor of New Testament, Boston University School of Theology

“Rev. Dr. Henry Ogbuji masterfully articulated the devastating consequences of domestic violence in Nigeria and offered profound theological and scholarly solutions to address this malaise. From Where Shall Come Our Help is a must-read and should serve as a vade mecum for all clergy, counselors, therapists, and everyone involved in caring for victims of domestic violence. I hope this work will sting civil and ecclesiastical leaders to consciousness to do more to prevent domestic violence and provide resources for victims.” Dr. Aloyius Sunny Ochasi, Clinical Bioethicist and Professor, St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, PA

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Upon graduation from Boston University, the author returned to his home diocese in Nigeria and has since been engaged in pastoral ministry. Seeing God’s Face: A Catholic American Woman in India

Seeing God’s Face: A Catholic American Woman in India

Seeing God’s Face: A Catholic American Woman in India

by Kiki Latimer

My mother taught me at a young age the old adage that: life isn’t fair. But we were living, growing up, in a country, the United States of America, that was founded on the idea of justice for all, fairness. In October 2004, my dear friend Vijaya Luxmi invited my sister Heidi Donahue, my best friend Maria Shaver, and me to join her on a 3-week trip to India. What follows are the 12 Letters that I wrote, via email, to family and many friends during that journey, and 7 of my journal entries that were composed, here and there, between the letters. These entries share the experience of my heart forced wide open to a better understanding of my mother’s teaching on life’s not being fair, but still indescribably beautiful. We are called to respond to both the injustice and the beauty. It is my hope now that this memoir will do the same for you, dear reader, to the degree that grace allows one’s experiences to touch the lives of others, through the written word.

REVIEWS

“Seeing God’s Face: A Review by Ivan Arthur of Goa, India,” author of Pavement Prayers and Saynt LachmiTo read the review, click here.

TESTIMONIALS

“Kiki Latimer’s book Seeing God’s Face is a veritable snapshot of life in the squatters or backwaters of India’s many cities. It presents the Western tourist – about to set foot on India’s soil – with a road map that navigates through the rough and tumble of life in India’s marginalized societies.  The narrative is truthful, although India has seen a metamorphosis that has driven the middle class up many rungs in the socio-economic ladder since the writing of this book eighteen winters ago. But Latimer views this dismal social and cultural landscape with a different lens. She writes: “Despite all the poverty I have seen, I would not wish the American form of wealth upon this land. Our wealth is spiritually empty. We throw away family and community life for our gods of privacy, comfort and space. Here, there is the possibility, if even for one bright shining moment, to be a lily in the field.” In this milieu of trial and tribulation, where the resilience of its people combat poverty and roll back despair, Latimer sees the face of God.” – Robin Arthur, author of Global Healing
